Prepare yourself for any possible challenge you might encounter on your heroic journey.  We'll teach you everything from handling weapons, to triangulating the location of a hidden enemy, to counteracting poisons.  And we won't just lecture you -- all of our classes are story-based. That means that your heroic character will be called upon to USE the skills you've just learned to complete a quest, save a community, or even topple a foe. Learn critical thinking skills, self confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills as you fight monsters and solve mysteries!

ROLE PLAYING

Join a fantasy adventure and guide your character through wild and wonderful experiences -- some good, some bad, and some that YOU can change with the powers of intellect and courage.  Role Playing classes are fantastic opportunities for students to learn STEAM and practice decision-making, critical thinking, and character-building skills in a fun and imaginative, informal yet educational setting.

Create new characters for each new world we transport ourselves to. Characters are not always heroic, and stories do not always end well. This class integrates historical figures and works of literature alongside narratives that foster resilience and teach good storytelling.

Join in our fun, educational, and interactive games that foster teamwork, problem-solving, and getting to know your fellow players (building rapport and community). Improv activities, board, and social games abound. This is a good class for kids who prefer immediate and action-oriented objectives and group challenges instead of more elaborate scenarios.

FENCING

The Story School virtual fencing program covers all aspects of Olympic foil fencing techniques, skills, and theory to help build better fencers right from the comfort of their own homes with live and engaging coaches. We challenge our fencers with an interactive adventure that requires them to practice their footwork, attack homemade targets, and develop strategies to take down the various virtual monsters that we face. Using video conferencing and Google Classrooms, we may travel through time and learn from the fencing masters of old or face down a future threat that requires precise and well-timed fencing attacks. Join our online programs where fencing is an adventure!

HISTORIC WEAPONS

Are you a history buff? Looking for an online swordsmanship class that is like a “world tour” of swords and other weapons?  Learn techniques used through history as well as about weapons and battles of the past by re-enacting their styles.  Must have appropriate space for safe practice of fencing/other movement drills, as well as objects that can be used to represent the weapons we study.

Learn techniques used through history and details about weapons and battles of the past by re-enacting their styles.This adult class increases historical rigor and examines some of the grittier aspects of weapons and warfare. Largely directed by students’ interests, our studies may take us anywhere at all in the world, from Ancient Egypt to a galaxy far, far away.

JUNIOR LEADERSHIP

Junior Instructor Training Program

It’s difficult to get teens real-life training for work and college that involves planning, public speaking, classroom management, designing curriculum, and more in a manner that is socially and emotionally engaging. Our Instructors help our Teen Leaders develop important skills while staying socially engaged with their classmates in a creative learning environment where they take the lead.  Teen Leaders can earn their course completion certificate – which looks great on a résumé or college application!

Let the Story Bring Learning to Life!

Based on our mission of inspiring life-long learners, our belief that education is a voyage, and our desire to help our heroes pivot to a world of digital learning, we are presenting a full semester of STEAM-based, story-centered, and essential skill-integrated curriculum adventures. The curriculum is designed to motivate through the use of stories and discovery-based learning; engage through interdisciplinary studies, and energize through interactive and play-based activities.

Adventures in Time / Preventing the Apocalypse

 

We learn from the past, we learn from stories, and we learn from being active participants in our own education. What if you could accomplish all three in a single day? That is the thought behind our story-driven, STEM-focused afterschool class adventures: The Chronokeepers.

 

In the future, the worst has happened. The apocalypse has come and the world is destroyed, but all is not lost. A select few have been sent back in time to make everything right. Join the Chronokeepers: an elite group of adventurers tasked with preserving the timeline. Learn from the past, work in the present, and save the future. Join us for a set of afterschool classes designed to educate and entertain. You have three levels of adventures:

  • STEAM-focused and academically-aligned afterschool courses allow students to practice discovery-based learning as they identify problems and use STEAM education to resolve the problems before they create disasters in the future

  • Modern-day essential learning skill modules to train them into better and more well-rounded Chronokeeper heroes including learning to recognize media biases, learning financial literacy, and honing their critical thinking skills

  • After-school socialization-focused adventure modules where they will adventure with their peers on epic quests to save the day and reinforce the educational modules from the day’s lesson

Full Semester (20 weeks) Options:

  • 20 weeks of  After-School Only 2 (T/TH) or 3 days (M/W/F) per week $18 per class: $720/$1080

Half Semester (10 weeks) Options:

  • 10 weeks of After-School Only 2 (T/TH) or 3 days (M/W/F) per week $20 per class: $400/$600​

Single Week (Trial) Options:

  • One week trial of After School 2 (T/TH) or 3 days (M/W/F) $25 per class

All About Our Membership Rate System

Our classes run year-round, rather than in short sessions.

Classes are categorized as Tier 1 or Tier 2 based on their duration and depth.

Pay one flat monthly fee and attend as many different classes as you like.

Pay one month at a time, or save by pre-paying for a full year.

INTRODUCTORY RATE

TIER 1 MEMBERSHIP

Flex Plan: $154/month

Annual Contract: $136/month

Choose a Home Class as your primary class.

For the first three months, all meetings of your Home Class, plus meetings of any other class you'd like to try, are included in your payment.  After three months, a $25/month surcharge applies to each additional class beyond your Home Class.

Do you have a favorite class? We can set up a custom meeting for you and all your friends!  Celebrate a birthday in a completely unique way, or just come have some fun with us. 

Why have a party when you can have an Adventure? The biggest and best party option at The Story School is the Points & Powers Birthday Party. Learn the game rules and then take on the role of a brave warrior, wise wizard or fearless healer. Then go forth into a customized adventure in a live action story. Costumed instructors provide monsters or brigands to fight, villagers to rescue, and everything else you’ll encounter. Scenery and props transport you to underground lairs, castle halls, haunted graveyards, or wherever the story takes you.  You design the theme of the party, we make your vision come true. The ending is unknown because you decide the outcome!

Using a list of simple at-home items like paper towel rolls and cardboard boxes, we’ll keep your young heroes entertained as they help craft adventure props. The adventure is physically active and may include dance, exercise, or scavenger hunt components woven into the fun.

HELP SAVE THE STORIES!

 

We're amazed and truly grateful to all of our donors from the past year, helping us raise over $23000, putting us almost halfway to our goal. However, the second half is often steeper than the first. We may be running with steam now, but we're still not out of the woods.

 

With the help of all of you, summer camp is officially happening this year at a beautiful in-person venue with over 70 heroes registered for their adventures. We cannot thank you enough for the generosity, patience, and support that has gotten us to this milestone. The donations from the last year have been distributed 50% directly towards scholarships for our campers in need, 25% towards our new camp venue in Sturbridge, and 25% towards the equipment necessary for an in-person camp. However...

 

There are still campers who need scholarships or they won't be able to attend. There are still costs left to cover all of the amenities of our venue. Lastly, we have decided to increase the amount of outsourced support for all pandemic-related safety precautions. We're asking our community to help us one more time as we round that final corner and begin the summer camp season.
