 Spend the SUMMER

 in a story

Wizards & Warriors Summer Day Camp combines Live Action Role Playing with STEAM education to give children ages 7 – 15 the opportunity to become heroes in their own immersive, educational, and interactive stories. During their camp sessions, camper/heroes suit up as their own unique characters and immerse themselves in the ongoing adventures of the fantasy world known as Sidleterra. Camper/heroes complete STEAM lessons to earn strength points and magical abilities, which they’ll use to battle a range of monsters and save the day.

COVID PROTOCOLS

Updated May 15th, 2022
**Please check this page periodically for updates**

IMG_5485%202_edited_edited.png

We have all watched COVID-19 impact our world, affecting everyone in some capacity, and hoped for a quick resolution. Cancelling our 2020 in-person camp due to the impact of the pandemic was a hard decision for us and adapting to the challenges in 2021 was no simple matter, but our heroes safety comes first.

The Story School will be following all guidelines put out by the CDC, the MA Department of Public Health, and the Massachusetts Camp Association, in order to protect campers, families, and our community as we move forward. Our top priority is to ensure that everyone has a safe, fun, and educational camp experience.

If you have a specific question about what Wizards & Warriors Summer Camp will look like amidst COVID-19, please contact Executive Director Chris Wiley at guardian@thestoryschool.org

MODIFICATIONS

The following modifications are based on those made during the 2022 season and are implementations in the 2023 season. The Story School will continue to watch as guidelines and regulations develop to see if/where we will need to make any adjustments as our program draws near.

Below you will find a summary of actions we are taking to help ensure that we are lowering the risk of exposure to COVID-19 as much as possible:

  • We are intensifying cleaning and disinfection practices at camp disinfecting commonly touched surfaces on a daily basis in areas used by our camp community.

    • Objects used during activities, such as encounters or mods, will either be disinfected between hero use or another set of items will be used in its place.

    • For meals this summer, we will have staggered meal periods to reduce crowds and meals will be eaten by cohorts.

    • During Staff Training, staff will review cleaning supplies and how to use them properly.

  • Campers will no longer need to travel in cohorts.

  • Mask Policy

    • Any camper suspected of close contact will be required to mask for 5 days following suspected contact

    • Any camper who contracts COVID will be required to mask for 10 days and should not attend programs for the first 72 hours from positive test or start of symptoms.

    • Any visitor that does not take an arrival test will remain masked while on site.

  • Testing Policy

    • Prior to coming on-site, all campers and staff will be required to perform a COVID-19 test taken within the last 72 hours prior to the start of their camp session (these tests can be at home rapid tests).

    • Campers will participate in a COVID-19 test upon arrival to camp, and be in a modified quarantine until results are returned.

    • Campers will participate in a 3rd COVID-19 test if they develop symptoms

  • Vaccination Policy

    • All overnight campers age 6 and up are required to provide proof of current and up-to-date COVID-19 vaccinations.

  • Visitation Policy

    • This summer vaccinated visitors will be allowed but must respect masking and distancing policies.

    • The Story School Staff will be allowed onsite with permission from the Executive Director Chris Wiley as necessitated for coverage and support.

  • Multi-Session Sign-up and Weekends

    • We will be allowing multi-session registration this summer. Campers are allowed to leave and return on the weekends but are subject to retesting upon return.

  • Electronics

    • The Story School will return to a policy of "no electronics" for day campers. Students can bring their phones and devices but they must be stored away during the run of programming.

      • If your camper requires an accommodation (listening to music to help sleep/decompress at night), we can make exceptions based on a conversation with our camp director in advance of the camp session

        • Approved Accommodation Electronics: live saving / health devices (such as diabetic sensors and connected apps), Devices with no access to internet (MP3s, certain audio book devices, etc.), WiFi disabled and SIM card removed phones (dumb phones :-p )

    • The Story School is still committed to giving our heroes an “unplugged” experience and they will not have access to any electronics outside of the specific exceptions above or as necessitated by a matter of health and safety.

ATTENDING CAMP

The following precautions must be taken in order to help protect our community this summer:

  1. All campers and staff are required to arrive with a negative COVID-19 conducted within 72 hours of the start of their camp session.

  2. Anyone who is sick, or recently in contact with someone with COVID-19 prior to attending camp (staff, campers, parents, family members, etc.), must not come to camp unless they have followed the 72 hour isolation and masking rule.

  3. Check yourself for any and all COVID-19 symptoms.

PROGRAM OFFERINGS

2023 Season announcement soon!

REFUND POLICY

All camp tuition is non-refundable, UNLESS withdrawal of attendance is directly related to COVID-19. Any cancellations by campers due to suspected exposure before attending camp, any cancellations of a camp session due to pre-emptive pandemic security measures, and any cancellations due to a potential outbreak will be eligible for refunds. We want our campers and parents to feel safe and encourage them to make decisions that are in their best interest as well as the best interest for others.

SCHOLARSHIPS

5C1089E7-B134-43D7-AF01-63BC08718571_edi

FOR STUDENTS

Our summer camp scholarships and financial aid program is a partnership between the camper families, donating organizations, and The Story School’s donor fund.

The Story School is committed to assisting as many campers as possible in their quest to experience their own adventure at our summer camps. While we sometimes receive more requests than scholarships are available and occasionally are unable to accept an application, we strive to work with parents and organizations to assist as many children as we can. Scholarship requests for large amounts may require verification by a copy of your family’s most recent tax returns.
Each camper applicant must provide the following:
  • A completed scholarship application.

  • One letter of recommendation from a person not related to you. (Examples: teachers, principals, community leaders, neighbors)

FOR DONORS

If you are an organization or individual wishing to provide financial assistance for children to attend one of our summer camps, please click the donate button below or contact us at (781) 214-1174 for more information. 100% of all donated funds are used for Summer Camp Scholarships for children.

TESTIMONIALS

“This is the best camp experience my son has ever had! He can’t wait to go back! My son Ryan is usually the brainiac who no one really knows at home, but when we went to camp for the feast and heard he stood up in front of everyone to defend a spirit who no one else believed in and changed the minds of the rest, he experienced what I knew he could accomplish. Everyone was telling him how brave he was…I always knew my son could do wonderful things…but camp allowed him to show himself.”
